The 840 phone is CapTel's newest captioning telephone for use with standard analog telephone lines! The 840 works with your regular analog telephone service to provide captioned telephone conversations for individuals with severe hearing loss.

The CapTel 840 works like any other telephones, but also displays captions of what the caller says throughout the conversation, just like closed captioning on your television set. CapTel users can listen to the caller, and can also read the written captions in the CapTel's bright LCD display window. CapTel uses a special system in which a relay operator uses voice recognition software to re-voice what the other party is saying, and the software quickly translates that into captions for a nearly simultaneous transmission of sound and text. A good solution for adults with severe hearing loss or speech-discrimination problems. This model works best on a standard analog telephone line. (Incoming callers must use a special 800 number to reach you in order for captions to appear. Installing a second home phone line can eliminate this extra step.)
