Newborn Hearing screenings
Why Are Newborn Hearing Screenings Important?
All infants should undergo hearing screening by 1 month of age. If a baby does not pass the initial screen, a full audiology evaluation should be completed by 3 months of age, with enrollment in early intervention services by 6 months.
Our Approach
At HEAR Wisconsin, we understand how important early access to language is for every baby’s brain development. Our Pediatric Audiologists provide gentle, routine hearing screenings that support early identification and healthy growth. Families can expect specialized newborn expertise and a calm, baby-friendly environment designed to make each visit comfortable and reassuring.

How to Prepare
We use a test called an Auditory Brainstem Response to check how your baby hears.
Your baby will be sleeping naturally
Small sensors (stickers) are placed on the head
Soft sounds are played through small earphones
We measure how your baby’s brain responds to sounds
Our nursery where the test will be held.
Feeding your baby right before the appointment or at the start of the appointment can help them relax and fall asleep naturally. You are welcome to bring a bottle or plan to nurse. Please also bring any items that help your baby sleep, such as a swaddle or pacifier.
